NZ Businesses Risk Missing Real Benefits due to Slow eInvoicing Adoption: Link4 Urges Action

As global business trends accelerate digital transformation, New Zealand is stepping up with mandatory eInvoicing rules designed to streamline payments, improve cashflow, and promote fair business practices. However, despite these clear benefits and looming deadlines, many Kiwi businesses remain unprepared – missing out on real business benefits.

Link4, an accredited Peppol Service Provider and Access Point certified by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and the New Zealand Peppol Authority, urges businesses to take timely action. From 1 January 2026, government agencies must pay all eInvoices within five working days.

“Many suppliers to government don’t realize they can get paid in 5 days,” said Robin Sands, CEO at Link4. “While there is a compliance aspect to this, the business benefits of eInvoicing should be a motivating force for buisnesses to jump on to it sooner rather than later.”

The Government’s updated Procurement Rules are designed to accelerate payment cycles and ensure suppliers receive fair terms. Meeting these requirements often does not require upgrading ERP or Accounting systems. Rather, engaging a Peppol-compliant provider to help with expert guidance can make the process simple and efficient.

Large enterprises (annual revenue over NZD 33 million) do face compliance deadlines when supplying to government. They are strongly encouraged to transition fully by December 2026.

Since 2016, Link4 has helped thousands of businesses worldwide automate their Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes and transition to eInvoicing with ease. In New Zealand, Link4 is the trusted local partner, offering specialised webinars, onboarding assistance for large enterprises, and ongoing advisory services tailored to NZ’s regulatory environment.

“Beyond stronger cash flow, eInvoicing offers tangible benefits such as improved accuracy, reduced errors, and operational efficiencies that free up valuable resources,” added Sands. “Our mission is to make this transition smooth, cost-effective, and a real competitive advantage for Kiwi businesses.”

Businesses are urged to start investigating their eInvoicing options now as it will increase the health of their business.
