MPI selects Link4 as New Zealand advances eInvoicing

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has awarded a contract to accredited Peppol service provider Link4 to enable eInvoicing through its Financial Management Information System (FMIS). This appointment followed a competitive tender process (RFP Ref: C0037708) and helps ensure that MPI are able to accept eInvoices in line with Government objectives.

eInvoicing is a key initiative under New Zealand’s digital transformation agenda, aimed at reducing costs, improving payment efficiency, and strengthening security across the public sector. According to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), eInvoicing is expected to deliver over NZD $400 million in annual productivity savings and reduce invoice fraud by up to NZD $30 million each year.

As one of the largest public sector agencies, MPI processes more than 25,000 incoming invoices and 70,000 outgoing invoices annually. By adopting Link4’s Peppol-compliant solution, MPI will benefit from:

  • ∙ Faster and more secure exchange of invoices
  • ∙ Reduced manual handling and fewer processing errors
  • ∙ Lower risk of fraud and duplicate payments
  • ∙ Greater support for small business suppliers through easier digital onboarding

“We are proud to be selected by the Ministry for Primary Industries to support the New Zealand Government’s eInvoicing program,” said Robin Sands, CEO of Link4. “This contract reinforces Link4’s position as a leading provider for public sector digital transformation and highlights our commitment to delivering seamless and secure invoice exchange.”

New Zealand first adopted the Peppol framework for eInvoicing in 2019, joining a growing global network of governments and enterprises streamlining financial transactions. With the MPI implementation, Link4 continues to expand its footprint across government agencies in New Zealand, Australia, and beyond.
